Smith, Haverhill, Essex County

I'm looking for information on Joseph Smith, birth unknown to me, he married Hannah Harriman b., June 16,1744, her father was Leonard Harriman born August 7, 1713 in Haverhill, Essex Co. Massachusetts.

Joseph and Hannah Smith lived in Plaistow New Hampshire, and her grave states "Mrs. Hannah Smith, consort of Capt. Joseph Smith, d. May 6, 1782, age 37 years". No record of his grave. He married two more times that I know of. 2nd wife: Mary Sawyer, of Atkinson; 3rd wife: Nabby Heath. A researcher from Plaistow suggested that I try Haverhill, since it is so close. If you can tell me any information on Captain Joseph Smith I would greatly appreciate it. He was my gggg grand father on my mothers side.

Morse

I have two Esrom Morse's, #1 b. October 24, 1765 in Sharon, Norfolk Cty.,MA and "died at sea" 9/23/1792 (apparently as a Gloucester resident). Esrom #2, #1's son b. March 12, 1791 in Gloucester, Essex Cty.,MA. I'd like more information about "died at sea". was he one of those "who go down to the sea in ships"? Listed among Gloucester fisherman lost at sea? The Morse Society lists Esrom #1 as Esrom #2's father, but has no information about Esrom #2's mother. thanks for any light you can shed on these.

Benjamin Day - Stone Carver

I am researching BENJAMIN DAY, cemetery stone carver, active in Salem in 1820 but by 1832 in Lowell, MA. He put "B. Day Lowell" on many of the stones I have found in the Forefathers Cemetery in Chelmsford, MA. He has at least one stone in St. Patrick's cemetery in Lowell, as early as 1832. His stones are in the Lowell cemetery 1832-1850. If anyone knows of any of his stones, would you please contact me with specifics. thanks so much.

Doherty and Moore, Essex County

I would like to obtain death records for William Doherty, from Lynn, Massachusetts. I am told that he was involved in town politics. I am writing to search my great grandfather's and eventually obtain his death and birth information. I have only recently learned of my father, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease now. He advised me that my great grandfather passed away in Lynn, Massachusetts and that he once located the death certificate there. My great grandfather's name is William Doherty, father of Hugh W. Doherty, and grandfather of John Howard Doherty. William Doherty was involved in the town government. John Howard Doherty was born in Cambridge, MA on 12/13/03. Hugh W. Doherty was married to Edna Moore and she was born in Lynn, MA on May 25, 1905, and lived at 20 Archer Street, Lynn, MA when she was born. Edna Moore was born to Margaret G. Howard and Thomas G. Moore (occupation listed as reporter).

McKitterick-Tobin

I am trying to locate information about the marriage of William H. Tobin and Annie McKitterick. I know that their second born son, William G. Tobin was born in Lynn in 1899 in June or July.

My big problem however is that I don't know where they lived and family lore has William H. Tobin dying in an iron vat in the Saugus Iron Works sometime before Eugene Tobin was born in 1906. I believe Eugene's birthday was also in June or July. Eugene became a Police Captain in the Everett, Ma Police sometime in the 1950's or 60's. William G. Tobin and his elder brother John (Terry) worked for the Esso oil refinery in Everett, MA. I did go to Saugus briefly and found that the story about William H. falling into an iron vat was not possible since the ironworks was underground at the time. This of course leads me to try and find out what really happened to William H. Tobin. any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am willing to pay for birth and marriage certificates if you will let me know the cost.
