DAVIS, Robert C

Dear ESOG,

I am looking for information on artist, ROBERT C. DAVIS, circa 1914.

I received a painting from my mother who found it in the attic of the old farmhouse where she lived with her in-laws from 1945-1956 in Hatfield, MA.  My mother attached a note ten years ago on the back of the painting that said it was a picture of the Salem fire of 1914, and on the painting, the artist’s signature, Robert C Davis, and the date, 1914, appear.  The painting is small (2’ by 1’) with the fire in the background and water/sea in the foreground, which according to my grandmother in my mother’s description in the note was painted from Plymouth, MA harbor/sea.  The biggest mystery is how the painting ended up in the attic in their old farmhouse, undiscovered til my mother came to live there in 1945, but I would be happy to know more about the artist.

(My grandmother died over 50 years ago and my mother suffers from Alzheimer’s disease although in the my mother’s note, neither one knew how it ended up in Hatfield.)

Thank you for any help you can give me.
