Surname: Barry
Query submitted by: Dick Staiert
Primary Goals: To learn more about relatives, To identify sources of specific information
Time Period: 1900's, 1800's
My wife's ancesters immigrated to America about 1850 and settled in Lawrence MA for about 10 years before moving to Iowa about 1860. It is believed that the mother Ellen Barry (born about 1795)sailed with Edward, James and Katherine to Boston. Edward and James married girls they met in Lawrence before moving to Iowa, but Ellen and Katherine stayed. There are many Barrys in the census records and multiple Edwards, James, Ellens listed in Lawrence City directories in this time period (I have access to Ancestry.com). I have tentatively identified potential candidates who could be my wife's ancestors and even perhaps the specific house addresses, but later census data provides conflicting info. If I could find Catholic church records for Edward and James marriages and for Ellen's and Katherines deaths (about 1870 and 1910 respectively), perhaps I could resolve the inconsistencies. What is the best way (who to contact, make inquiries for the Immaculate Conception Church & cemetery records, likewise St Patricks, etc.)to explore the church records? Are there any other approaches you might recommend?

I have traced my family back to Obadiah Rich b 1638 & d 1677 in Salem, MA. He married Bethia Williams in 1661. I have been unable to find out who his parents were and the names of his children. Also, where he is buried. I think, my family goes back to the Earl of Warwick.

Time Period: 1800's
Brothers, Thomas and James Collins went to Essex for work from Guysborough Co. Nova Scotia. I think that they may have found work in the ship building industry. I think the time range would be from 1860-1900. It is possible that James stayed but Thomas returned to N.S in the 1880's.
