Time Period: 1800's, 1900's
I wanted to research our family history for my daughter and her history project. Daniel A. Shea I and the Shea family, Arthur Duffey and we don't know who his wife is and her maiden name, the Whalen family, too. I think the Sheas came over during the potato famine and Daniel A. Shea I married Jane or "Jennie" Whalen. Thank you for all the assistance.

Response by Bob Gillis:
I suggest that you and your daughter get some recent books on genealogy from your library system. Start with what you know and can confirm in records and then work back. familysearch.org is a good free source of records.

Surname: Bradley
Query submitted by: William Bradley
Primary Goals: To learn more about relatives
Time Period: 1800's
My ggrandfather was John Bradley b.1831 and lived in Salem with his wife Ann (Patten) and 3 children, 4th child born after his death. John immigrated in 1848 from Co. Donegal,Ireland and enlisted in the 1st Mass. Heavy Artillery Regiment in 1862. He was wounded on May 19, 1864 at the Spottsylvania Courthouse Battle and died in June and was buried in Salem in August 1864 at the Catholic cemetary. I'm seeking info on his marriage to Ann Patten which was likely b/w 1848 and 1857. Possibly in the year 1855. Am seeking info on the Ann Patten marriage and her relatives. Thank you, William Bradley

Response by Bob Gillis: The only marriage for a John Bradley in MA 1850 -1862 is one age 26, (born c 1826) son of John who married Ann Porter 25 daughter of Hugh 16 Feb 1851 in Boston per Massachusetts, Marriages, 1695-1910 on familysearch.org.
In the 1860 Census on familysearch.org I find
John Bradley Residence: Ward 5 Salem, Essex, Massachusetts
  Age: 30 years (1830) Ireland
  Page: 33 Family 3682 Film 803497
and
Ann Bradley Residence: Ward 5 Salem Essex, Massachusetts
  Age: 29 years (1831) Ireland
   Page: 33 Family 3682, Film 803497
The 1860 Census on FS only shows individuals not families.
I feel the marriage record and Census are for the same couple.

Surname: Brewster
Query submitted by: Steve King
Primary Goals: To learn more about relatives
Time Period: 1700's or earlier
Per Ancestry.com, Elizabeth Brewster b. 26 Jul 1584 in St. Michael, Hertfordshire, England, d. 10 Aug 1638 in Ipswich. William Brewster of Mayflower fame popped up as her father, but Mayflower William had no daughter named Elizabeth per the official list I found. Do you know who Elizabeth's parents were? She married Thomas Emerson.

Response by Bob Gillis:
> Per Ancestry.com, Elizabeth Brewster b. 26 Jul 1584 in St. Michael,
> Hertfordshire, England, d. 10 Aug 1638 in Ipswich.
Ancestry has family trees as well as records; the authenticity of these trees is not confirmed.
> She married Thomas Emerson.
The only Thomas Emerson marriage in Ipswich in the time period is to Philip Perkins 20 Nov 168[5?]. Thomas and Phillip had Elizabeth 16 Jul 1693, May 20 Apr 1704, Sarah 6 Jul 1694 and Thomas 4 Jun 1699. There probably is another birth record in 1686

Phillipe w of Tho[mas] died 26 Apr 1738 age 67 y.,5 m.

Thomas of Chebacco died 21 Dec 1747.

There is no Brewster VR in Ipswich.
