COLE, Samuel Kimball

My Dad has long been trying to identify the parents of our ancestor Samuel Kimball Cole, born within a year of 1795 in Boxford.  He was a soldier in the War of 1812.  He enlisted in Lexington NH at the very end of the war, and later received a pension.  His wife was named  Mary A.  At some point he relocated to Schoharie County in New York.   I am told he appears in the 1854 census, age 54, in Blenheim, Schoharie County NY, dwelling #31.

It appears he was sometimes known as "Kimball Cole".  We have not been able to find records of his birth.  I believe my Dad looked at the 1800 census for Boxford and found 2 boys under age 10 in the home of two sisters with the surname Cole, and so he thinks it is possible one of these is Samuel.  He also thinks it is possible the women are the daughters of a Moses Cole.

We would greatly appreciate any help Boxford genealogists might be able to provide on the mystery of the origin of Samuel Kimball Cole.

COOK, Zachariah

COOK Family

My Dad's Uncle Zachariah Cook is shown in the 1930 census as living in Peabody.  Dad's sister, Mary Cook, is shown living with Zack.  I am trying to find out what happened to this family.  I know Aunt May Manning (Mary) still lived in Peabody in 1965, with her daughter Dorothy, who had married Rudy Luz.  Mary (May) Cook (born 1908) was married twice, I am unsure of her first husband's name; it could be Alward, Elwood or Aylward.  I do not know the first name of her second husband.

Elizabeth (born 1906)  and James Cook (born 1905), brother and sister of May Manning also moved to Peabody.  I cannot find any records showing what happened to Zachariah, Elizabeth or James and would appreciated any information on these individuals.

I recently found Zachariah's son Joseph Cyril Cook death in the Massachusetts Death Index, 1970 - 2003 Certificate No. 021772.

I would like to find out more about the our Peabody relatives.  Is there anyone out there that can fill in some of the blanks.

GRAY Family

I would be grateful for any help on the following matter. Agnes and George Gray appeared in the Scotland 1850 census in Glasgow. In 1860 US Census Agnes with their two sons - James & Campbell - both born in Scotland - appear in Lawrence City Ward 2 - but no sign of George [born 1824 Scotland ]

How did they get to Lawrence City and did George Gray die there ? Any suggestions ?

James was my Great Grandfather.

many thanks

DODGE

I have a problem in my Dodge line that I might be able to solve by knowing the occupation of Jeremiah Kimball.  This is what I have and it is from the Essex Co., MA records.  “Guardianship of Thomas Dodge a minor aged above 15  years son of Sarah Hodgkins of Ipswich in said county single woman, wasgranted to Jeremiah Kimball who gave Bond with Enoch Pearson and Nathaniel Treadwell Sr. as Sureties for his faithful discharge of that trust this 17day of December A.D. 1785.”   I think if I can find that Thomas was following a trade similar to Jeremiah’s, I might be able to prove that Sarah  Hodgkins was the mother of my Thomas.  I find an announcement in the Ipswich town records of the birth of Thomas, with Sarah his mother, not mentioned by name but saying that she had a bastard son.

Thanks
