Query submitted by: Don McKell
Primary Goals: To learn more about relatives, To identify sources of specific information
Time Period: 1800's, 1700's or earlier
Nathan Felch (1758-1839) was my 4g-grandfather. He was born in Middleton, married to Mary "Polly" Cheever in Chelsea in 1779, and eventually moved to Windsor County, Vermont. Nathan and Polly had at least 8 children; some were born in Essex and some were born in Vermont (Rutland?). I am seeking authoritative information on the names, birth dates, and places of birth, and spouses for as many of the children in this family that I am able to locate. I welcome any suggestions as to how to proceed.

Reply by Bob Gillis on 27 Feb. 2012: There is no Felch VR in Middleton and no Nathan Felch in the Essex County VRs <1850. The Early Essex county VRs and many other towns can be found at ma-vitalrecords.org

Reply by Bob Gillis on 27 Feb. 2012, In the Salem MA Vital Records to the end of the year 1849 the earliest death of a Mary Goldsmith is in 1779. Did your Mary die in Salem, Rockingham County, NH

Reply by Bob Gillis on 3 March 2012, I was a little quick in my earlier response. A quick run through the Essex County VRs for G0*sm* does not find the death of a Richard Goldsmith or Gouldsmith. A look at the Chelmsford VRs found at http://ma-vitalrecords.org/ does not show a Richard dying there.
In the Essex county Probate files, docket 11,077 there is a letter of administration on the estate of Richard Gouldsmith [of Wenham], intestate, granted 30 Sep 1673 to Mary Gouldsmith who brought in an inventory of the estate amounting to ?15 clear.
Wenham VRs: a Marah Gooldsmith marr John Abbie, 18 Feb 1674. No children for this couple recorded.
Mary Abbe w. John sr died 9 Sep 1672
As there was no death recorded in Wenham or in Chelmsford, my conclusion is that Richard was a mariner and drowned.
A Hannah Goolsmith dau of Richard born 4 Mar 1647. Ct R/
This date should be a dual date; "Double Dating is used in the months of January, February and March prior to 1752, whenever it appears in the original and from the sequence of entry in the original the date may be easily determined."
No marriage or death record in Wenham.

Reply by David Goldsmith on June 9, 2012: Richard was said to be a shipbuilder and emigrated to US in 1634 on his own ship. His death is well documented to have been by lightning. More info is available. Dave Goldsmith

Primary Goals: To share information, To learn more about relatives
Time Period: 1900's, 1800's
Major William Wallace Morris is an ancestral cousin. His grandfather Joseph was my fourth great grandfather Asher Morris' brother.
I am seeking information on William Wallace Morris' descendants searching for the Morris family Bible that Major Morris had.
His daughter Mary Jane Morris was a Vice Principal in the Newark School district in 1900.
His sons were Albert W. born 1859 and Winthrop B. born 1880. He also had daughters Elizabeth B. and Helen L. Morris. One of his daughter married Joseph S. Shoyer.
Any assistance or guidance is greatly appreciated.

Surname: Martin
Query submitted by: Jerry Knudson
Primary Goals: To learn more about relatives
Time Period: 1700's or earlier
Looking for any record that links John Martin Jr. to his father John Martin.
Information I have is from various family trees, primarly on Ancestry.
John Martin (Jr) b. 2/4/1674/75, {Possibly 1701-1704,(there are some discrepancies)}. Born in Salisbury or Amesbury. Married Jane Flanders 1/18/1710/11 in Amesbury. No death records. Their son Stephen b. 4/6/1721 is my ancestor. For reference, other children of John and Jane are: John, Jane, Sarah, Mary.
His father I believe:
John Martin B. 1/26/1650 Salem, D. 10/6/1693 Salisbury. Married Mary Wood b. 9/5/1653 Salisbury abt 1678 in Salisbury. For reference other known children of John and Mary: Mary, Hannah, Ruth, Abigail, Deborah, Samuel
John Sr. is the son of George Martin and Susannah North of Salem.
Records on any of these people or other connections are welcome, but establishing a connection between John Jr and John Sr have been the absolute most frustrating goal I have had in a long time and any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Jerry

Time Period: 1700's or earlier
Researching Gwinn family in early Essex/Hamilton. Requesting direct lineage of James Franklin Gwinn b. Apr 3, 1829-1893 (m. to Ellen Stuart). I believe his father was James Gwinn b. 1797 (m. to Sarah). I am trying to determine if there is a link to Gwinn who immigrated from Wales in the 1700s or earlier. I have a pretty extensive record after JFG largely based on family research and the cemetery in Hamilton. JFG's son Charles S. was my great grandfather. Thank you.
