Fall 2015 Program Schedule

Meetings are held at the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer Street, Lynnfield MA. The church is on the corner of Summer and Main Streets, next to the Lynnfield Public Library. Care and Preservation of Genealogical Records and Photographs
Eva Grizzard, Northeast Document Conservation Center

This lecture provides an overview to the preservation and care of paper-based and photographic collections. Archival collections provide a unique glimpse into our personal, local, and national history. Unfortunately, preserving these records can present a range of challenges. The instructor will provide an introduction to the environmental and mechanical considerations of caring for archival collections, including storage materials, climate control, and risk mitigation. Simple preservation steps for handling books, documents, photographs, posters, and negatives will be demonstrated.

Getting All Sherlock: Using Your Sources as Evidence
Barbara J. Mathews, CG, FASG

Sometimes the information you need to break through a brick wall is already on your desk. Evidence analysis helps you to wring the last little bits of value from a document. Correlation and comparison of evidence from many sources leads to breakthroughs. The GPS provides our road map. We will look at examples from my own ancestry and discover how attention to details broke through brick walls for Anna and for Emily.

Pot-Luck Luncheon and Member Show-and-Tell (starts at noon)
A-G Soups or salads (tossed or removed from molds)
H-R Desserts (cut into individual pieces)
S-Z Main dishes, precooked and hot (we have power for crockpots)
